Natural history studies collect information about the symptoms and progression of a disease in the absence of an intervention. It is vital to understand natural history so that researchers can plan for clinical trials to determine if an investigational drug or therapy provides benefits. These studies will determine which measurements are used during the trial, and what sorts of changes would be expected in the course of disease progression.

In order to better understand the disease and determine which assessments accurately measure disease progression, GRASP-LGMD is recruiting individuals with LGMD2A/R1 to participate in a natural history study. The information gained in this study is critical to the development and success of upcoming LGMD2A/R1 clinical trials.

This study is sponsored by Coalition to Cure Calpain 3,the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the National Institutes of Health.
